2014 was the year of the ""weather waltz"" with contrasting weather conditions: a magnificent spring, a cool and rainy summer and a glorious month of September, conducive to, ripe grapes with an excellent balance. This pure Chardonnay, from Domaine Louis Roederer, comes from four plots of Grand Cru in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs.
These soils are characterised by the salinity of the limestone and the richness of the rare clays that lie beneath the surface. Here the grapes ripen well, always a little more golden than elsewhere, a little juicier, a little more vibrant. Back in the 1930s, Champagne Louis Roederer decided it could use these grapes to craft a champagne with slightly lighter bubbles, drawn off at low pressure, that would preserve the wine’s lightness and its hedonist character.
Aged for a minimum of five years in the cellars, this champagne radiates in a complex and delicate cuvée of a type that can only be found in the great terroirs of Avize.

Tasting notes
Buoyed by the saline freshness of the limestone, this Blanc de Blancs combines springtime accents of orchard fruit and candied citrus with the warmer notes of perfectly ripe grapes. The palate is voluminous, creamy and yet delicate, underpinned by a great persistence which bodes well for very fine ageing. You should therefore leave it in the cellar and wait a little longer!
“The mineral sensation is at its peak, with a dynamic and creamy texture of the utmost quality.”

Ageing potential
Our champagnes undergo an extended period of ageing to allow them to gently evolve and mature, gaining in structure and depth, whilst developing highly nuanced aromas over the years.
You may enjoy them in the purity and chalky freshness of their youth or, if you appreciate more mature champagnes, wait a few more years or even decades for their candied, spicy notes to emerge. Our champagnes have a long future ahead of them and their destiny is in your hands!
Reviews
James Suckling (June 2022)
96/100
« Plenty of biscuit, pie crust, lemon pie, praline and hazelnut, as well as hints of toffee, cream and salted butter. Vibrant and sharp, but with lovely butter and brioche character and tight bubbles. So delicious. Wonderful balance of freshness and creaminess. »

« Derived entirely from Avize, it's one of the great sleeper cuvées in contemporary Champagne. »
